How to make a mind map
A mind map starts with one idea in the middle and grows outwards. Because everything radiates from the centre, it is a fast way to capture a brainstorm and see how topics relate.
Capture first, tidy later
Write the central idea in the middle of the page, then add a branch for each main topic. Add sub-topics as they come to mind, without worrying about order.
Use NodeFlow's mind map template
- Open the editor, choose Flowchart and pick the "Mind map" template, or choose Sketch pad for a freehand board.
- Rename the central ellipse, then double-click each topic to edit it.
- Add more topics by duplicating one and dragging a connector from the centre.
- On a sketch pad, draw with the pen, paste images from the clipboard and add coloured sticky notes.
Start from an outline
If you already have your ideas as a list, choose File, Build from text or CSV, pick "Outline" and the "Mind map" layout. Indent a line to make it a branch of the line above, and NodeFlow arranges everything around the centre.
Make it useful
When the brainstorm slows down, group related branches, mark the strongest ideas with a colour and turn the best branch into a flowchart of next steps. Export the map as an image to drop into notes or slides.
