How to export a diagram as PNG, SVG or PDF
The right export format depends on where the diagram is going. Here is what each option in NodeFlow is best for.
Choose a format
- PNG: sharp images for documents, slides and chat. Choose the transparent version to place the diagram over a coloured background.
- JPEG: smaller files for photos and web pages where transparency does not matter.
- SVG: scalable vector graphics that stay crisp at any size, ideal for websites and print. Transparent SVG is available too.
- PDF: a one-page document for printing or attaching to an email.
- JSON (.nodeflow.json): the editable file, for keeping a backup or opening it again later.
Where to find them
Everything is in the File menu: Export as PNG, JPEG, SVG and PDF, plus transparent PNG and SVG. Print uses your browser's print dialog.
Copy it instead
Choose File, Copy as image to put the diagram on the clipboard, then paste it straight into a document, email or chat message without saving a file.
Share a link
Save the diagram to your free account, then choose File, Share link. Anyone with the link can view it without signing up, and they can duplicate it into their own account if they want to edit. You can turn the link off at any time, and version history lets you go back to an earlier save.
Tips for good exports
- Use Fit diagram to view first to check that nothing is off the edge.
- Pick the transparent PNG or SVG when the diagram is going onto a coloured slide or page.
- For code flows, File, Export as code gives you JavaScript, Python or pseudocode instead of an image.
